Suit Ranking can be ascertained on two contexts :
1. Alternating colors: diamonds (lowest), followed by clubs, hearts, and spades (highest). (This ranking is also used in the Chinese card game Big Two or Choi Dai Di).
2. Alphabetical order: clubs (lowest), followed by diamonds, hearts, and spades (highest). (This ranking is also used in the game of bridge). This mnemonic rank is consistent with the suits representation of the four major divisions of medieval society, Spades (nobility, highest), Hearts (clergy), Diamonds (merchants), and Clubs (peasants). However, it is believed in some circles that Spades actually represented the military and Diamonds represented nobility.
